Cordyceps is complex of stroma of Cordyceps sinensis (Burk. ) Sacc. of thefamily Claricepitaceae and corpse of larva of Heplalus armori canus. othe family Hepialidae. ln winter, the hyphae of Cordyceps sinensis (Burk. Sacc.grows into the body of the larva of Hepialus armori canus 0. in earth and as aresult that the body of the larva is filled with hyphae and it dies finally. lnsummer, stroma grows out of earth and it is collected around the AutumnaEquinox when the amassed snow has not melted and the stroma are ofterabove the snow. lf collected too late, the stroma are difficult to be foundbecause of the overgrown weeds. Moreover, the larva corpse will wither andbecome improper for medicinal use. Cordyceps is mainly found growing inSichuan, Qinghai and Guizhou and contains an effective anticancer componentof 3-deox yadenosine.
